Boston Engineering Receives Rising Tide Award at the Blue Innovation Symposium

Blue Innovation Symposium, Rising Tide Award

Waltham, Mass. — January 29, 2020 — Boston Engineering received the Rising Tide Award in recognition of its contribution to maritime technology industry growth in the Northeast Atlantic. The award was presented at the January Blue Innovation Symposium – a premier New England event for marine technology industry education and networking held in Newport, Rhode Island.

“Boston Engineering has a longstanding commitment to supporting this region as a global maritime leader through innovation and collaboration, and we are proud to recognize its contributions with this Rising Tide award,” said Dr. Tobias Stapleton, dean of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education at Salve Regina University, who presented the award.

“The Blue Innovation Symposium provides an important opportunity for government, industry, and academia to discuss key technology trends and to foster an ecosystem of collaboration and information-sharing,” said Mark Smithers, vice president and chief technology officer for Boston Engineering. “We are honored to be recognized for our involvement in the region’s ‘blue innovation’ community. And we look forward to ongoing support for the Blue Innovation Symposium and related maritime industry collaboration efforts.”

Sponors and presenters at the 2020 Blue Innovation Symposium included representatives from the US Navy Office of Naval Research (ONR), the US Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), FLIR, Hydroid, L3Harris, and Dartmouth Ocean Technologies. The Blue Innovation Symposium is organized by Salve Regina’s Office of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education as part of the university’s initiative to grow the region’s economy by collaborating with industry, organizations, state and federal agencies, and other key stakeholders. The Consulate-General of Canada in Boston and TSC Strategic are co-sponsors.

Additional 2020 Rising Tide Award recipients are Dr. James Bellingham, Director of the Center of Marine Robotics at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI); and Geospectrum Technologies.
