Impetus

The rapid escalation in COVID-19 cases is causing many healthcare providers to treat patients without the benefit of pandemic-grade personal protective equipment (PPEs). These healthcare providers on the front lines of treatment also need to safeguard against the spread of the coronavirus responsible for COVID-19, which can live on some surfaces for days. To help address this challenge, hospitals are using ReadyDock’s disinfection docking stations to sanitize mobile devices – and are now also using the product to disinfect surgical masks.

ReadyDock’s disinfection technology uses ultraviolet light (UV-C) to kill viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens that can be harmful to patients and healthcare providers. The Federal Food & Drug Administration (FDA) includes UV-C technology in its COVID-19 disinfection guidance. More broadly, ReadyDock’s disinfection technology helps to combat health acquired infections (HAI), which accounts for 1.7 million infections and 99,000 associated deaths each year according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Insight

ReadyDock is the only company to combine device disinfection, charging, and security in a single technology to support dynamic healthcare environments. ReadyDock is also the world’s only chemical-free disinfection multi-bay docking station.

Mobile devices are high-touch surfaces that require disinfection in clinical and germ-sensitive settings. And, because these devices require frequent disinfection, speed and accuracy are critical. ReadyDock’s patented technology disinfects mobile device in less than one minute. By contrast, chemical disinfection of a tablet can take up to 15 minutes (per typical disinfection policies).

Impact

In addition to enhancing an existing product, ReadyDock also selected Boston Engineering to develop a smaller disinfection product. Boston Engineering designed the ReadyDock UNO for ergonomics and ease of use within a compact footprint.
